Full-scale operations of joint venture airbag business begin in China
Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka City; President: Tetsushi Takenaka) established N.I. TEIJIN Air Bag Fabric (Nantong) Co., Ltd. in China (Nantong, Jiangsu) as a joint venture with Asahi Kasei Fibers Corporation in October 2012. The newly established company manufactures and sells airbag fabrics and has started full-scale operation.
N.I. TEIJIN Air Bag Fabric (Nantong) Co., Ltd. produces airbag fabrics on a fully integrated basis, from weaving to coating. While the current primary material is nylon, the company is also capable of producing polyester airbags, for which demand is likely to increase.
Current annual production capacity is 6.4 million square meters. In light of future trends in demand, the company is planning additional investments in weaving machinery to expand its production capacity to 16 million square meters by fiscal 2015, with annual sales of two billion JPY.
Viewing this full-scale operation at a Chinese production base as a starting point, Teijin Frontier plans to draw upon its processing technologies and material procurement capabilities to develop its airbag business on a global scale and expand operations to become a multi-supplier of automotive materials.
