Teijin Group CSR Basic Policy (2017–2019)

1. Basic Stance: Sustainable Development of Business and Society
Work positively and proactively on important issues related to corporate social responsibility such as the environment, society and governance (CSR materiality) with high sensitivity to aim for sustainable development of business and society as "an enterprise that is essential to tomorrow's society."
2. Contribute to Society through Business
Proactively grasp those problems that society needs to solve related to the environment, safety/security/disaster mitigation and health, and provide sustainable solutions to such problems through business.
3. Appropriately Respond to Various Risks
Manage various risks related to business activities appropriately such as corporate ethics and compliance, environmental impacts, quality assurance, occupational safety, etc., and demonstrate strong resilience even when risks actualize.
4. Dialogue with Society to Improve Continuously
Maintain positive dialogue with society and continuously improve these recognitions and practices. At the same time, contribute to gaining and maintaining social recognition as a "CSR advanced enterprise" globally.

Teijin Group CSR Materiality and SDGs

As a member of global society, the Teijin Group is contributing to achievement of the sustainable development goals (SDGs), which are the goals in 17 fields that all members of the United Nations will tackle by 2030. We refer to the social issues shown by the SDGs in identifying CSR materiality (key issues), and are working to advance CSR on a global level.

Role of the Group CSR Committee

The Teijin Group positions CSR to be an important element of corporate management, and aims to promote CSR as an integral part of management. We have created the post of Chief Social Responsibility Officer to act as proxy for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in managing all CSR-related affairs and we are promoting activities under his strong leadership.

To implement the Teijin Group's CSR management in a unified, efficient manner, various CSR issues are classified into three fields, "basic," "expansive" and "selective." A main division/organization in charge is specified for the important CSR issues (materiality), and starting with planning for the medium- to long-term and single fiscal years, we repeat the Plan, Do, Check, Action (PDCA) cycle to achieve ongoing improvement and enhancement of our CSR activities.

On April 1, 2017, the Teijin Group newly established a CSR Planning and Promotion Department under the responsibility of the Chief Social Responsibility Officer. This department aims to achieve integrated management for the promotion of CSR materiality and further strengthen information-sharing and dialogue with both internal and external stakeholders.

▼Basic CSR
Areas positioned as "basic" social responsibility. Basic CSR is promoted under the direct control and supervision of the Chief Social Responsibility Officer. While observing laws and international standards, we are striving to reach a level beyond these standards.
▼Expansive CSR
In order to respond to various social requirements, this field is promoted by the other officers and/or the president of each business area in collaboration with the Chief Social Responsibility Officer who advises/supports them. This field includes human resources/labor and purchasing/procurement to meet supply chain needs.
▼Selective CSR
In "selective" CSR, companies conduct voluntary activities irrespective of legal obligations. The Teijin Group is proactively promoting value creation through business for various social issues and rolling out various social contribution activities in this field.

CSR Management Organization of the Teijin Frontier Group (Teijin Group's Products Converting Group)

As the leading company in the Teijin Group's Fibers & Products Converting Group, Teijin Frontier in 2002 introduced a committee system to address total risk management (TRM) in accordance with the Teijin Group's CSR Management System. In October 2010, it revised the committee system with the aim of strengthening CSR activities and internal awareness of such activities by clarifying the mission of each organization and adopting a systematic approach toward organizations and members in accordance with actual corporate activities. It implemented an organizational unification of the committee (meeting) overseeing the entire Fibers & Products Converting Group and the subcommittee overseeing Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd. Furthermore, in April 2012, it established a new CSR Section within the Personnel and General Affairs Department of Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd. to serve as the secretariat of the Compliance Risk Management Committee (CRM Committee), the Environment, Safety and Disaster Prevention, and Health (ESH) Committee, and the Product Liability (PL) & Quality Assurance Committee, with the aim of moving the operations of each organization forward in practical manner. Thereafter, applicable functions were assumed by the Environment, Safety and Quality Assurance Office.
